Casa Mira

On a sweltering day in Malaga, and often well into the early hours of the morning, one name dominates the quest for sweet relief: Casa Mira.

The parlour on Calle Larios heaves with locals and tourists alike, all seeking the perfect scoop to combat the Andalusian heat.

What draws the crowds isn’t just the extensive range of artisan flavours, it’s the heritage. Casa Mira has been a Malaga institution for over a century, cooling down generations of sun-drenched visitors with its legendary ice cream, milkshakes, horchata, nougat, cakes and other treats.

The ritual is simple yet satisfying: grab your numbered ticket, deliberate over the flavour selection, collect your cone or cup, then settle onto a nearby bench for some prime people-watching. It’s a slice of Malaga life at its finest.

From nougat to ice cream: the Casa Mira story

Casa Mira’s journey didn’t begin with ice cream at all. When the Mira family patriarch, Severino, first opened his shop in 1890, he specialised in turrón de Jijona (nougat from Valencia) and horchata, a traditional Valencian drink made from tiger nuts.

The original parlour stood proudly on Calle Nueva for an impressive 126 years before closing its doors in 2016.

However, the family’s expansion proved fortuitous. The Calle Larios branch, which opened in 1943, has since become Casa Mira’s flagship location and the most recognisable ice cream destination in Malaga’s city centre.

Where to find Casa Mira across Malaga

Now in its fourth generation of family ownership, Casa Mira’s success has led to steady expansion throughout the city.

The brand operates four locations in total, ensuring you’re never too far from a refreshing scoop.

Beyond the iconic Calle Larios parlour, you’ll find branches near the Cathedral, in the La Victoria neighbourhood (pictured below), and further west in Cruz de Humilladero.

Each location maintains the same commitment to quality that has defined the brand for over 130 years.

Taking Casa Mira home with you

Can’t get enough of Casa Mira’s artisan ice cream? You needn’t limit yourself to in-parlour visits. The brand offers takeaway options, allowing you to order a full litre of your favourite flavours to enjoy at home.

Whether you’re planning to impress dinner guests or simply fancy a solo indulgence during a Netflix marathon, Casa Mira’s takeaway service brings a taste of Malaga’s ice cream heritage straight to your freezer.
