You can’t miss the massive El Corte Inglés when entering Malaga from the west up the grand Avenida de Andalucía. Nor if you’re on pretty much any rooftop in the city. Especially around Christmas time when adorned with its famous illuminations.
Though not local to Malaga (it was founded in Madrid in 1934) El Corte Inglés is a symbol across Spain. In fact, it is currently the biggest department store group in Europe.
With its vast floor space and multiple departments, this makes for the ideal location for shopping with the whole family.
The main building (Av. de Andalucía, 4) houses the departments for men’s, women’s and children’s fashion, as well as a sports and toys section.
The ground floor is dominated by cosmetics, fragrances and accessories, while the top floor is reserved for the Gourmet Experience – a restaurant-cum-food shop with impressive views of the city.
In the basement, you find a chemist and the supermarket which is particularly popular with foreigner residents because of its wide range of international products.
Across the street (Calle Hilera, 8) is the second El Corte Inglés building, where the remainder of the departments you’d expect to find are located (electronics, books, office supplies, furniture and household appliances).
In the basement is the homeware section and the BriCor hardware store.
