Mesón Ibérico

If you’re hunting for proper tapas in Malaga that’ll make your taste buds do a little flamenco, Mesón Ibérico should be top of your list.

This charming spot has been dishing out authentic Andalusian flavours for over twenty years, which means they’ve had plenty of time to perfect their craft.

Located in the trendy Soho district, it’s a proper mesón (traditional Spanish tavern) where locals and visitors alike gather to share good food and even better conversation.

The finest ibérico pork and Mediterranean seafood

The menu reads like a love letter to Spanish cuisine, boasting over 100 carefully crafted dishes that celebrate the best of ibérico pork and fresh Mediterranean seafood.

While you’ll spot familiar favourites like croquettes (they do six different varieties), this isn’t your typical tourist tapas joint.

The real genius lies in their approach: every dish arrives as a ración (sharing plate), perfect for groups wanting to sample multiple flavours.

Solo diners needn’t worry, though – traditional single-portion tapas are available too.

Daily specials showcase seasonal ingredients, often featuring the catch of the day or whatever’s looking particularly good at the market.

Vegetarians aren’t forgotten either, with excellent cheese selections and vegetable dishes that celebrate Andalucía’s incredible produce.

The wine list focuses heavily on Spanish bottles, offering excellent value pairings that complement the robust flavours of the kitchen.

The perfect Malaga dining experience

You’ll find Mesón Ibérico tucked away on a quiet street, blissfully removed from the tourist crowds yet still easily accessible.

The atmosphere strikes that perfect Spanish balance – relaxed enough for a casual meal but special enough for a memorable night out.

Fair warning: this place is popular with locals (always a good sign), so booking ahead is strongly recommended.

Reservations are handled the old-fashioned way: by phone only, which adds to the authentic Spanish charm. There’s seating inside, at the bar, or outside at charming barrel tables if the weather permits.

One quirk worth noting – they’re closed at weekends, so plan your visit for a weekday if you’re on a short break.
