Restaurante Vino Mío

Nestled in the heart of Malaga’s historic centre, Vino Mío has been delighting diners with contemporary cuisine since 2003, earning its stripes as a proper fixture on the city’s restaurant scene.

The restaurant boasts front-row seats to the illuminated Cervantes theatre, making it an ideal spot for pre- or post-show dining when you’re catching a performance.

Under new management since 2024, renowned Dutch chef Freddy Cusell brings his expertise in Peruvian Nikkei cuisine (the fascinating fusion of Japanese and Peruvian flavours) to this established Malaga favourite.

What’s cooking at Vino Mío

The menu cleverly describes itself as “international Andalusian cuisine with a touch of Peru” and delivers exactly that intriguing combination.

You’ll find Asian-style woks alongside traditional Andalusian ingredients, while Peruvian influences are evident in the ceviche (raw fish “cooked” in citrus juice) and the distinctive spicy notes that thread through many dishes.

The starters are designed for sharing, which makes perfect sense if you’re the sort who wants to try everything on offer.

Their signature tataki de atún (lightly seared tuna) gets rave reviews, though the watermelon tataki proves they take their vegetarian options seriously, too.

For mains, there’s a proper choice with three fish dishes, three meat options, a trio of woks and three vegetarian plates that actually sound tempting rather than afterthoughts.

Beyond the plate

From Wednesday to Sunday, Vino Mío puts on flamenco shows from 8 to 9.30pm, and we’re talking about authentic foot-stomping, finger-clicking performances by local artists who clearly love what they do.

Wine-wise, they know their stuff (the name’s a bit of a giveaway), with a thoughtfully curated list that includes local Malaga wines and a cava (Spanish sparkling wine) that’s actually produced in the province.

Inside, it’s light and airy with funky artwork, whilst the terrace offers lovely views across the square to the theatre.

The multilingual staff enjoy explaining every dish and helping you navigate the menu, which makes all the difference when you’re dealing with fusion cuisine.

Yes, it’s pricier than your average chiringuito (beach bar), but the quality justifies the cost.
