Cycling in Malaga is a growing trend and as with most major European cities, Malaga now has an expanding network of cycle lanes, as well as its own public hop-on-hop-off bicycle rental scheme – Málaga Bici.
Given the process required to sign up, this is probably not the best option for you if you are coming on holiday. However, if you’re staying here long-term, it’s a good option to have available to you.
First you need to get yourself an EMT card, available from most newsagents and kiosks. Then you need to sign up on the Málaga Bici website.
Signing up is free for the first year (10 euros annually thereafter), plus a further 10 euros for insurance cover. Once complete, the first 30 minutes of any journey (you’re unlikely to do more if going from A to B) is free. Thereafter you need to make sure you have sufficient credit on your card. Rates can be consulted here.
